
Sherman Woo - CTO for GVLabs
Sherman Woo is the CTO for GVLabs, a business innovation company. GV Labs leverages Internet-based technologies and business acumen in order to make companies and organizations better.
Sherman Woo has 30 plus years of experience in developing software. His career has ranged from large mainframe financial systems to mid-range client server decision support tools to medical simulation software on a desktop platform. He has been a research engineer as well as a director of a large development organization. Woo was an early pioneer of advanced office systems, he introduced the first office voice mail system into Pacific Northwest Bell, he pioneered the large scale use of personal computing at U S WEST and he was an early advocate of the use of CD-ROM technology for business information products. Woo was also an early pioneer of the Internet and Internet programming languages and is a recognized expert the domain of the Internet.
Woo was the founder and developer of the U S WEST Global Village. This is one of the first Intranets to be created and remains one of the largest and most sophisticated applications of web technology to business computing and communications. He has been featured in numerous popular journals for this pioneering work, including: Fortune, Computerworld, PCWeek and CIO magazine. He was awarded a Smithsonian Award for the best corporate Intranet. Woo has also been a world-wide speaker at forums on Knowledge Management, corporate communications and business use of Intranets in the United States, Europe, Africa and the Far East.
Woo led the growth of an entrepreneurial group within US WEST from a small core of 17 employees to a large organization of 300 hundred software engineers, analysts, managers and administrators. He has directed the transformation of this organization in attainment of level 2 of the SEI capability maturity model. He has created the environment to enable high performance work teams to flourish and achieve sustained delivery of quality business solutions.
