Seth Herd - Neuroscientist

The series of causally-connected space-time events known as Seth Herd has had the (subjective) good fortune to receive both a liberal (Earlham College, BA Physics ) and technical (University of Colorado, Psychology/Neuroscience MA/PhD) education.  Continuing good fortune has brought that recursive system a very rare self-sustaining position in understanding itself. The laboratory of Randy O'Reilly, at CU (which works on artificial neural network models of human brain function) has provided an opportunity to spend a good deal of time learning about brain function and how it produces cognition, and enough spare time to connect that to a humanistic perspective.  "Seth" has been involved in research on vision, metacognition, executive function, and memory.  In addition, cognitive eddies of this system have delved into the neural mechanisms of consciousness, and the associated, formerly "philosophical" questions of consciousness, free will, and identity, all with with the subjectively satisfying result of answers that can unify the mechanistic and humanistic perspectives.
