
Steven Hoffman - Co-founder of LOHAS Journal and Managing Director of Compass Natural LLC
Steven Hoffman, a former agricultural extension agent and co-founder of LOHAS Journal and the annual LOHAS market trends conference, has been involved in sustainable food and agriculture for more than 30 years. He is Managing Director of Compass Natural LLC, a full service marketing, communications, and business development agency serving the natural, organic and sustainable products industry. He is co-owner of Boulder’s Best Organics, a provider of premium organic and eco-friendly gift box collections featuring leading local brands. Also, Hoffman is former Chair, Vice Chair and current board member of Naturally Boulder, an economic development initiative established by the City of Boulder to help promote the growth of natural and organic products business in the region. Hoffman served as Managing Director of The Organic Center, a nonprofit research and education institute based in Boulder, from 2007 – 2010. He is the former Rocky Mountain regional sales manager and national marketing director for Arrowhead Mills, a leading organic food company founded by Texas organic farming pioneer Frank Ford, and now a division of the Hain Celestial Group. Hoffman is the former editorial director of Natural Foods Merchandiser, a leading trade magazine published by New Hope Natural Media. He served in 2003-2005 as President of People Planet Profit Colorado, now CORE Colorado, one of the state’s leading sustainable business associations. In the late 1970s, Hoffman taught tropical agriculture as a Peace Corps volunteer in Central America. He holds a M.S. in agriculture from Pennsylvania State University, and as director of Philadelphia’s Urban Gardening Program in the mid ‘80s, he helped establish more than 125 vegetable gardens in low-income areas of the city.
