Neil Westergaard - Editor of the Denver Business Journal
Neil Westergaard has been a reporter and editor in Colorado for more than 30 years.
He began his career in 1974 at the Colorado Springs Sun covering police, politics and state and local government. He was The Sun’s Capitol bureau reporter from 1980 to 1982 and then joined The Denver Post as a political reporter. Later, he served as Capitol bureau chief, assistant city editor, deputy business editor and city editor.
In 1991, he was appointed executive editor of The Denver Post and ran its newsgathering operation during a period of rapid growth and intense competition.
He signed on with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Colorado in 1997 as media relations director and soon became executive director of corporate communications. He served on the company’s operating committee and oversaw strategic communications connected with the sale of the company to Anthem, Inc.
In December 1999 he was named editor of the Denver Business Journal, the nation’s oldest weekly business journal, where, in addition to managing a staff of 15 reporters and editors, he writes a weekly column. Earlier this year he was named the Lowell Thomas Journalist of the Year by the Colorado Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
He lives in Denver with his wife, Cindy, who is a school teacher. The couple has two grown children.
