Ben Fernandez, an intellectual property lawyer, practices patent law at the Denver offices of Faegre & Benson, LLP.  As a result of Ben’s education in engineering and the law, he is able to provide intellectual property advice and patent prosecution/preparation in a broad range of technical fields, including (tele)communications, computer software, mechanical design and manufacturing, heat transfer/thermodynamics, and related fields. 
 
Ben’s exposure to the realm of web design issues began with his involvement in co-creating a virtual, interactive, web-based tour of the Morgan Library at Colorado State University in 1998-99, in HTML and JavaScript.  Since then, his focus has shifted to broader issues of computer law and policy; his paper “Digital Content Protection and Fair Use: What’s the Use?” will be published in the next issue of the Silicon Flatirons Journal on Telecommunications and High Technology Law.
 
Ben holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Colorado School of Law, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (with a minor in French) from Colorado State University.  He is also a registered Patent Attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
