
Al Gebhard - Serial Inventor
Al Gebhard, who has some 80 patents to his credit and dozens of other devices and products that aren't patented, was the 2002 winner of the DaVinci Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Gebhard has invented devices used in dozens of fields, including child care, health, marine, personal care and communications. He's the creator of the first baby monitor devices produced by the Gerry Corp., the first umbrella stroller and the first front-carry baby carrier.
Gebhard was born in 1946 in Pennsylvania. He's a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh, Penn. He was admitted to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1976, the Industrial Designers Society of America in 1975 and the Society of Plastics Engineers in 1974.
Gebhard worked for a number of architectural, design and engineering firms before becoming an entrepreneur, manufacturing executive and independent full-time inventor. He holds patents or has developed products in dozens of fields, including juvenile, automotive, electronics, oil field equipment, marine, sporting goods, housewares, appliances, exercise, cosmetic/personal care, health care, medical, pet supplies, water treatment/filtration, water cooling and dispensing and hardware.
