Shifting Gears on the Space Program - Finding the next big opportunities
NASA intends to cancel its Constellation Program, the massive human spaceflight project that would have returned astronauts to the Moon and sent them on to Mars. But will Constellation really die? And if it does, what will America do in space five or ten years from now?
With Congress and the White House heatedly debating the latest plans, NASA's leadership is providing some vague clues, and private industry is holding its collective breath to hear the outcome.
The current situation at NASA more closely resembles the cryptic fictional world in Brian Enke's novel Shadows of Medusa than the solid reality one would expect from an iconic institution like NASA. Over the coming years, NASA could move in at least three different directions, leading to three very different outcomes.
Join us as we discuss new directions and opportunities for the space industry with Brian Enke, Senior Research Analyst in the Department of Space Studies at the Southwest Research Institute.

Brian Enke is a Senior Research Analyst in the Department of Space Studies at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado. As the Chairman of the local Mars Society chapter and an adviser to the MarsDrive Consortium, he has given many public talks about space exploration and settlement strategies. Brian also volunteers as a high school robotics mentor and a writer/consultant for the 4Frontiers Corporation. His novel about Mars exploration, Shadows of Medusa (http://www.shadowsofmedusa.com), continues to delight hard-science fiction readers. In his rare moments of spare time, he writes space-related articles as the Denver Space Industry Examiner (http://www.examiner.com/x-2558-Denver-Space-Industry-Examiner).

MODERATOR: Dave Taylor
